The College of Engineering’s transformative
changes are aligned with the broader efforts
of the entire University, under the leadership
of Purdue President Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
These “Purdue Moves” initiatives include
positioning the University as a leader in
the STEM disciplines (science, technology,
engineering and mathematics); changing
the world through exemplary, results-oriented research; transforming education;
and finding ways to make college more
affordable for more students.
These overarching goals are already
spotlighting the University as a leader in
solving today’s higher education issues, and
the College of Engineering is a key player in
this effort. To learn more, visit www.purdue.
MAKING IT HAPPEN
To succeed, our strategic growth and our strategic plan require an
investment in the future of Purdue Engineering — its students,
faculty, and facilities. Alums and friends are already rallying to meet
these challenges, as can be seen throughout the following pages. But
there is still much to be done.
Funding goals to meet our challenges include several top priorities,
especially the following, which are centered on strategic growth:
New student-support endowments
Undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships help make
a college education affordable and help the College of Engineering
continue its commitment to quality and diversity by recruiting and
retaining the best, most creative students. To learn more about the
exciting student support by our alums and friends, see Page 8.
New professorship endowments
Purdue’s engineering faculty have a long tradition of leadership in
their disciplines, and this strength remains vital for meeting the
college’s goals. Endowed professorships provide an excellent means
to recognize talented faculty at all stages of their careers. To achieve
this, the college will endow full professorships, as well as create
special endowments for midcareer faculty who have distinguished
themselves among their peers but who are not yet candidates for
named full professorships. To learn how some donors and friends
have supported this goal, see Page 26.
World-class education and world-changing research require
exceptional facilities. The college will transform existing spaces,
as well as build new facilities, to create high-tech, active-learning
environments and collaborative, interdisciplinary research spaces
using state-of-the-art equipment. See Page 36 for some examples of
facilities upgrades, thanks to our alums, friends, corporate partners,
The people of the College of Engineering are innovative. Our culture
fosters teamwork, creativity, and diversity. The college is working
not only to solve the grand challenges of today, but also to predict
the equally important challenges of the future. None of these
achievements are possible without an extraordinary foundation of
support from alums and friends, examples of which are depicted
within this publication.
